Dayton
Dayton, also known as the "Gem City", is the 4th largest city in the state of Ohio and located in Montgomery County. Dayton is in Miami Valley, north of the Cincinnati's metropolitan area. Dayton is 500 sq miles and thus easily accommodates being a host to well-known players in the industrial, aerospace, and technological/engineering research fields. Multiple technological inventions and innovations are created there. Since Wright-Patterson Air Force Base it is no wonder numerous innovations originate within the community. Although, because of the fall of heavy manufacturing, Dayton's companies have branched out into the service sector, such as insurance, legal, and healthcare areas, all while the population has trended downward.
Dayton was founded on April 1, 1796, by twelve settlers called the "The Thompson Party". The date is significant because it was only seven years prior to the entrance of Ohio into the Union in 1803.
Dayton is home to two major universities: the University of Dayton (UD), a private university, and Wright State University, a public university. The University of Dayton is among the top ten Catholic universities nationally. It is also the base for the Center for Tissue Regeneration and Engineering which does research on the regeneration of human tissue at the UD Research Institute.
For things to do in Dayton include: National City Second Street Market, Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park (birthplace of aviation), Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, National Museum of the United States Air Force and IMAX Theater are must see places.
